A friend sent me an email with some attachments...here is one of them. I will be happy to forward the entire email, for anyone wishing to see the rest of them. They are beautiful! Well, I couldn't get those images from the email in here...but here is the same image from a blogger site.

I can see them just fine...nice, would be great for a prayer feather. I like to hold a single large feather to offer special prayers. That is how I always begin a ceremony anyway, after tobacco is offered to the 4 winds, Mother Earth, Father Sky, Great Mystery, in the Medicine Wheel.
I've noticed some Natives even substitute the feather for a talking stick sometimes. Those feathers are a great idea. I wondered if they are actually painted or have been dyed. I think White Eagle may have mentioned somewhere that feathers should be dyed rather than painted, using leather dye. If the feathers are painted, still look nice...as long as the feather doesn't feel rough or become brittle.

How glorious to make something so beautiful. I use my feathers from my eagle owl I used to have to send the smoke from my incense to the four quarters. I think feathers, for me, are part of my yearning to fly, upward and onward. They are so special.

Look just like incense cones, come in a similar box...are a blend of herbs grown and produced by Natives. Oh well, i just looked and it seems they may have stopped making them or could be out. Normally at Native sites you find smudge sticks, white Sage is the most sacred sage. Also Flat & Red Cedar, Sweet Grass braids and sage burner, some use an Abalone shell. There are Native healers who refuse to burn anything in Abalone shells, but would rather keep the shells for holding healing crystals, stones. Crazy Crow Trading Post is a good place to browse if you want a look at.... Native American Indian Botanicals & Herbswww.crazycrow.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=831-000-000If you know how to make incense cones yourself, like some people do...a smudge cone should have some ground White Sage. I'm not sure what else they add, maybe someone on the forum could help out here. A little cone like that might be more practical in your home. Especially if in a small room.

I am guessing from my artistic background.... The feathers are probably painted with acrylic....and that will make them stiff. If painted with enamel, or oils...then they will stay soft for at least 20 years. These are not dyed feathers. They are hand painted by an American Indian artist.
I did not share the ones of Indian people....I am dumb, and did not want to offend. I am not sure which ancestors are represented on the feathers.
I often light a pinch of sage in the ashtray....you don't have to have the cone. One small pinch of a leaf from the plant will scent a room just grand.

I saw once California White Sage in bulk, 1 lb. or I think even 5-10 lb. box. The photo of what they had looked like it would be good for a pinch...mostly leaves. I was buying stones at the time, was on ebay, the price was cheaper than what my stones cost. I almost said something here on the forum about it...I'm not sure if you can still find deals like that for White Sage.

I will email my friend in Phoenix and see if he can find some White Sage to send to me. If so, I will offer it here in smaller packets for an Indian trade of whatever else members wish to share with me. Like small stones that you have collected...or sea glass...or whatever is handy for you to mail.
The sage I grow is not of the white variety....it is what I am able to find at the plant nurseries around here. I'm not sure if the White Sage will grow here in Tennessee. I think that is more Southwestern than our climate will allow.

Probably is a very Southwestern plant.
