Available for download here: www.helphaskell.com/From_Social_Reality_to_Legal_Fiction_final.pdfThis is a book regarding the history of "non-federal" tribal attendance at Indian Boarding Schools and the attempt of these schools' and the Bureau of Indian Education's attempt to rewrite history by saying that these tribes attending these schools were a mistake and trying to strike their records from history. Cara Cowan had exclaimed in front of some graduates that these tribes had never attended some of these schools. Edit: I forgot to mention that it shows a bit of the tensions between federally-recognized tribes and non-federally-recognized tribes, and how the BIE/BIA take advantage of the divide and conquer situation.

I watched a few documentary films (PBS/WNIT) before on NA history. There was something about boarding schools mentioned once. Anyway, there had been an attempt to use the school system, which became a tool for deprogramming young NAs from their past and making them like the Whites.
