Hello everyone, I've known since I was a little girl about my cherokee heritage. My GGgrandmother on my fathers side was full cherokee. My aunt provided me with the information I know of her. I have only one picture of her and her name. What I know about her is that she was sadly ashamed of her native roots so she didn't like to be in pictures much. I've visited her grave site in the past also. I've always been interested in knowing more about this part of my heritage. (I'm not at all close with my fathers side since he passed away years ago) So I have very little information about that part of my family and I don't know as much about the Cherokee as I'd like too. I hope to learn through reading and internet research and talking with other people. What I was hoping someone might help with is my Aunt told me to contact Cherokee Nations about recognition or rights or something of the like? I'd like to know what that means, how I could begin to do that, I'm just very confused as to how I could learn more about myself and my heritage as well as perhaps become involved. I have already looked at the Dawe's roll for my GGgrandmothers name but it is not on there. (Her name is Harriet Wyndham Easterling) Anyways, any information at all would be appreciated. I don't know much and hope to learn alot more about these things. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance These things may be helpful in your search: census records probate records (includes wills, adminstrations, inventories, guardianship records, etc. ) deeds (land records) church records military service as well as pensions Indian census rolls 1885-1940 Fold3.com Ancestry.com Dawes (also check Dawes rejected lists) Could have been rejected because of residency requirements or did not apply due to not agreeing with allotment process. Try to locate books on the area where your ancestors lived. Hope this helps!
