Hi All, Well, we had the blood drive and when the Red Cross showed up they said that our goal was 25 pints! I was sooo relieved! Then when we opened, the problems started. They turned down people for having half a degree of temp., they couldn't get some of the peoples veins long enough to put in the needle, they would take you if you were on sinus med.'s and even blood pressure meds. , BUT not on antibotics. We had 1 gallon club member show up and she had FORGOTTEN that she had had HEART CATHERIZATION in the last 6 months! Now is it just me or do other people thing that they would REMEMBER having had heart catheriziation with in the last 6 months? Then with 2 people waiting to give blood they said they were closeing up. I pointed out that we had people waiting and they told me that they were UNION and had to close no matter what. We ended up only getting 19 pints of blood and want to try again in 60 days, but thats up to the Red Cross who I will be talking to later today. I am VERY PROUD to say that we had 3 1st. time donors yesterday, our youngest daughter being 1 of them! No one passed out, But 1 of my former students did start seeing stars when she got out to the parking lot so a couple of the guys brought her back in and we took care of her, then 1 of the guys drove her home and the other followed to bring him back to his truck. Now that we know what we're doing maybe they will come back and we can have more people to donate.

Annie: Sorry you fell short on your drive, I need to wait at least 6-8 weeks before I can donate (just had surgery) but when I do can I designate that it go to your drive even though we are in different states??

Sorry it doesn't work that way. Anyway your drive needs the credit so that you can keep having them in your area. Please do make sure to give when you are able they always run short in the summer. Thanks!

Oh, 1 very important thing to do before you give blood! Drink orange juice that morning or take a iron suppliment. Women are constantly turned away due to low iron levels and this brings it up.
