If you wish to have lighter colored designs on bone or antler just melt wax and use it to draw on the pieces, then soak for several days in a cold solution of very strong tea or coffee (old ways used pecan and or oak bark and the husks of the nuts). Once they achieve a color darker than that which you want, rinse in clear water and then place in pan with sufficient water to cover all pieces and bring the water to hot where the wax will float/come off. You will have pieces that are darker colored where the wax was not present and lighter where the wax was placed and then removed. Polishing is easy on these pieces too and the designs remain very distinct. The overall color will lighten some when you heat them again during the wax removal which is why you dye them darker than the finished color you desire.
ENJOY!! DD
