Hi! I'm Jen in Central Florida. Walking in both worlds but walking more on the path of the Old Ways after these many years. I have so many questions!
My first Powwow was 15 years ago at the Green Corn Powwow at the Hollywood Seminole Res. I was in awe at the Grand Entry and the Veterans Song. The sun was just going down over the pines.
Volunteered at the Orlando AIA Powwow... again in awe... and found a hawk wing on the ground at my door the next day. I went back to the Powwow with one feather, thinking it was bad to take the whole wing with me. I lost the feather on the way to the Cola wagon I was helping with. It was returned to me by a band of teens wanting to know how I found it.
When I moved to Lake County - began going to Powwows here every year... and have had a lovely relationship with a particular hawk in the neighborhood... who brought a mate back with him after the bad hurricanes last year. They visit me daily. About this time I found out that I have Indian blood on both sides of the family.
The neighborhood is on the edge of wild areas which are queickly being plowed under by greedy developers for the greed of others. I've seen fox, otter, deer, coyote, turtles of all sizes... including one the size of a large trunk making it's way down the middle of the street. And, lucky to have 2 Eagles nests within a mile of me.... made sure it was put on the State Registry for protection. I would love to protect this whole area for the wild.
