Hi everybody. I just wanted to tell you about the event White Eagle will be attending on July 26. I understand that there is a "Stomp Dance" on the last Saturday of every month . It is held in New Caney. This is the first time I have heard about it. I don't know where in New Caney and I don't have any information about it or who attends it.
I'm sure White Eagle will let everyone know after he has gone to it. It sounds like something he will enjoy.

I went there and had a good time but Pete (in charge security) and his wife don't care if I'm hearing impaired and they're mean to me about the rules that I didn't know 2 things.... They're BETTER be nice and explain to me well, also they supposed to be write the rules to me before I went there but they didn't..... Also, there's a white woman who cooked for us and she made fun of me in front of people while they're eating...... I told Pete's wife to told her better not to messy with me next time and better to speak slow down or write down before she tell me about the rules first before I go in and eat with Native Americans and Guests. There's rules: women on the left side and men on the right side of the food table to fix the place of foods. I can't reach the food what I want on the women's side because the table is too wide and long..... So, next time I'll ask the lady to help me to fill the food for me when I can't reach the food on the women's side of the food table. The 2 owners of the Stomp Dance private property and a member "Wolf" of www.cherokeeshouston.org (He's Apache Indian) who did be nice and taught me well, I thanked them so much and I learned from them very well, whew. (Stomp Dance is my first time ) I like Wolf, he's a GOOD friend of mine. They gave me bless water in my hands and I put the bless water on my face, arms (6 times) and throw water on the back 4 times (left and right) then I turned around 1 time, shook his hand and hugged him. Cherokee people do shake the hand to lower arm and hug each others when they're leaving.

Thank you for make me feel better my sister, The Stomp Dances that Native Americans dances round (right side) of the circle by the Sacred Fire in the middle, we danced round about 10 times but we prayed 4 times first then stomp danced (we took breaks and go back again) from about at 8:00 p.m till 2:30 a.m. The White Cherokee leader song and danced with the Turtle rattle sick on the side of me about 4 times! The ladies and girls worn the Deer's hoofs (nails) on their's by ankles with wet white towels and tied, also other ladies & girls worn the Box Turtles with rattle-(pellets inside of the box turtles) on their's by ankles with wet white towels and tied, they're dances left foot stomp 2 times and the right leg stomp 2 times and the men & boys stomp one time on each foot (like Armies walk follow to the sarge). The White Cherokee leader put about 10 Sacred tobaccos in the Sacred Fire (that'll fight the fear away). That Stomp Ground have 7 Clans with ports (North, West, South and East) and with small fire places. I sat in the Wolf Clan's place in the South, there's many Wolf Clans than others, wow! The other Clans are few and none.... but someday they'll be there. Also, guests sat on the back of 7 Clans place and watched us while we're danced and visited us.

I really don't think that the ladies ment any harm in their joking to you. This is a way that NDN people use to let you know that you are welcome into their area. IF they were really wanting to be rude to you they would have ignored you and acted as if you were NOT even there. Teasing is a forn of acceptance and flatory. Please, I hope next time you don't take things to heart too much. Now, remember that not always is it OK to turn the tables and tease back the same way. Rules to this game are learned with time my friend.
I am very glad that you had a good time at the Stomp dance. learn some of the leads and seconds. try it out and JUST have fun.

Are there any other Cherokee events like this coming up soon in our area? I'm in Tennessee, so anything southeast could work.

Great! Keep us posted. I would like a few other members to join us, too! I need a vacation from all the crap I have been dealing with. July is a good month for that for me. My daughter will be with my sister (who is about to have her first baby) in Florida. Travel then would be good.

that dont give anybody the right to act that way toward anyone ,i dont care what race you are .if you go to a place that you dont know the rules and so on some one should take the time and tell ya all the things that you need to know .not to made you feel like an outsider. but im glad you are not letting it get to you. stand tall and strong like you did

'Siyo all. Never knew that there were stomps in Texas. I know my people went to a gathering sort of near durant north of Dallas before but thats it. We had a bunch of Texas Cherokees attend our ceremonies (in Missouri) for a while but I think it got too expensive for them to travel.
A word about the clan benches/arbours... Make sure if you sit at a bench at a dance circle that you have been given permission by the clan members of that grounds. When walking around, try not to ever walk between the benches and the circle. this is concidered rude. Sitting near benches (behind) is fine.
Also, if you have no clan, then you should be near the Twister bench (also called "stranger"). If you tell someone why youre sitting there, you may get a very cool lesson about the clan culture.

The more I learn, the more I do not know! I'm almost afraid to attend. What do they do if you goof up and don't know? Will someone explain and help you? I do not want to offend anyone.

Generally people are pretty good natured and will sort of guide you back in line. It also never hurts to ask questions and watch. Pay attention. Also, it is not a crime to just go and observe for the first time. Pay attention and talk to people who are available to you. Most Stomp dances these days are social ones as opposed to the original spiritual/religious dances.. The Cherokee called this dance the Race or Running dance. "Stomp" is a translated Creek term.

Steve were right about that, I think you should sit on the back with Guests (they bring their own lawn chairs), watch and learn what Cherokees doing the Stomp Dancing in the circle, break times, holy water blessing us, dinning table area rules, dress the right Regalia dress. When you have learned the whole Cherokee's way and find out what Clan do you have for sure then you'll be ready for that and have fun. Sorry to saying that but that's VERY important to let you know, they're just strict Indians. I hope that doesn't offend you, be patience and take time.

I'm not offended. I want to know. I am closer to finding my heritage now, if this computer would quit acting up! What do the 'guests' usually wear if they do not have regalia dress? How many Cherokee clans are there? And Creek? I still haven't found out which one I am. I have studied photos...but I look like both.

Don't take this the wrong way, but You probably dont belong to any clan... Now in spiritual communitities there are sometimes "adoptions" , but don't rely or expect this. There are seven principle clans and unfortunately there is a bunch of incorrect info on them. The currect names are somewhat abreviated these days. Us Chickamauga have a slightly better "rememberance" of them, but they are Wolf, Deer, BIrd, Twister, Blue Holly, Wild potato, and (red) Paint. There were at times many other clans or family subdivisions, but the clans are as they are. No additional names are added to them, so whe someone says "wild potato also known as the bear clan, its totally wrong.

I agree with Stonebear, in that many no longer know their Clans and the meaning. Just go and sit in the visitors section unless you have family in that particular Stomp ground or you are well known to others.
The Correct Dress to wear are for Women, a dress(skirt) or nice pants and top. If your going to shake shells you will already know what to wear. For the men dress nicely in pants and a shirt, blue jeans without holes(if possible) will be OK. Boots, T-shoes are acceptable. Nice, no foul insulting type hats, hats are acceptable, ie western or ball caps.
When you go to a Stomp Ground, please don't just wander into a camp unless you are invited. This would be simular to someone just walking into your house. It's just NOT nice. No Alcohol!!!!!!!!! Bring your own comfortable chair, whether it is a nice lawn chair or a folding chair of some kind, not a recliner though. Take a jacket as even in the warmer times some of these grounds get very cool at night.

Bearfoot: have you been going to any Stomps lately? I'm not sure where you live but if you live in northern TX or southern OK there are many stomps in the Chickasaw, Choctaw and Creek areas. Our Cherokee grounds are more up northern and eastern OK. The Shawnee also have grounds in upper OK along with the Miami, Peoria, Ottawa, Quapaw, Wyandotte, Seneca/Cayuga, etc.
I haven't been back on here for a while so I thought I would check in. Bob
