Ya'll remember that dog Cojo in the old Stephen King movies? Well according to our Vet.'s new assistant and 2 seperate dog groomers in our area we now own it. I should add she was wearing a muzzle at the time they were trying to deal with her! I have this adoreable looking English Springer Spaniel named Precious who is precious at home with the family, she adores our granddaughter and younger cousin, BUT at the Vet.'s and Groomers she is a whole different story! As of today she has been banned from 2 groomers in our area, which makes it a total of 4 so far in our area! Hubby brought her home, got out our dog clippers and she acted like an angel while he trimmed her. She reallly needed a trim she was begining to look like the dog in that Shaggy DA movie! So she has now been clipped, bathed and defleaed and is happily in the our bedroom curled up with our cat Rebel . Now the really fun thing about taking Precious to get her shots yesterday is we also took Ace our Pitt Bull and while Precious acted like Cojo, he acted like a perfect gentleman! Even when this little 4 month old thingyer Spaniel ran under him and tried to pee on his leg! Ace thinks he's a lap baby where as Precious thinks shes a Pitt Bull. lol

I've been training, breeding and showing dogs and horses for over 40 years so I can relate, have had to do extreme grooming on Yorkshire terriers, poodles, etc and even did "pet" grooming for a while. It is definitely a thankless job, actually if your dog is a springer type spaniel, a good daily or other day brushing should be all she needs. Even in the summer their coats are designed to help keep them cool. Anyway good luck and know the Father Creator is with you as are my prayers. AHO

I bought her because we had a rescued springer who was very protective of the kids when they were young. When she died, her 1 pup that we had kept mourned and refused to eat so I bought Precious to keep her company. When she died of old age (12) a year later we brought Ace home. Only Precious takes being protective futher than Molly did. I looked at her papers and noticed a pedigree thing I didn't care for and wonder it that could be the problem. It is odd that she will go after people who have come to the house since she was a puppy, but let our granddaughter come over and she is all over her licking and wagging her tail. lol I do give her vit. for keeping her coat oiled and so her joints won't bother her later in life. I wish you could see her with our cat Rebel, they are BEST FRIENDS and soo cute together when she comes in the house.

You many be right on the money about the genetic thing, many breeds do carry a gene for aggressiveness outside of the family and that's OK until your children or grandchildren have friends over to play. At that point she might need to be crated to avoid the neighborhood kids being hurt, if you think it would come to that. Great Danes (my favorite breed) has gotten a bad rap for that gene which is why I socialize the puppies right away but then they allow the buglers in and show them where the silver is. LOL I also look hard in my breeding program into past generations for any indications of aggression. Good Luck, I do not envy your dilemma.

She's only agressive to people that she doesn't know. It's really odd that she just adores our granddaughter and our younger cousin ages 3 and 4. She's extremely protective of the family and yard. We have a fenced in yard with child locks on the gate, as well as beware of dog signs. We always have had not only to protect people, but also to protect ourselves legally. I've worked with cops to long to take any chances.

I'm glad you have covered your bases, again I send prayers to you about her, she sounds like a lovely dog otherwise, I forgot that with springers you have to clip under her chin to the breast bone and along the topline down to the end of the rib cage, leaving only the feathering under the belly and on the legs, have you tried being with her at the groomers? That's a silly question, I'm sure you have tried everything. Again my prayers go out to you. AHO

The groomers around here don't allow the pet owners to be with them. I think thats part of the problem. Hubby just completely shaved her since it is already hitting the 90s here in Ga. We'll probably shave her again in July or Aug. to help keep her cool. Since we shaved her she looks like a oversized puppy and is much more friskier now that she is cooler. If you want to e-mail me I'll send you a picture. When we got her she was 3 pounds and 6 weeks old, now she's 4 and weighs around 50 pounds with a full coat.

That's sweet puppy! Yep, If shaved long hair dogs in the summer will keep them cool off. My mother (White Feather) shaved her Sheltie (look like Collie) in the summer time. Sad thing is her dog name is Lances died last month. He just very old dog, he's 14 yrs old....

Sorry to hear that White Feathers Dog passed. We lost 3 animals in a year and a half due to old age all of them over 12 years old, 2 dogs and 1 cat, so I know how hard it is.
