:)Hello please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Judy but I go by Huronwoman for several reasons not the least of which is that fact that I am a moderator on the United San Antonio Pow Wow Assoc. Bulletin Board, I love the none paying job!! I am of Huron decent with some Kiowa thrown in the mix along with some other stuff but my Huron blood rules me. I am 5'7" 125lb and hate to say but am 55 years young, still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I am single and although am happy this way I would like to find a Native man with similar interests. Although I am disabled I still pow wow dance, train horses (my first love) and dogs, c limb mountains, camp when I can and enjoy the animals the Creator allows me to visit with I live in a very spiritual place in the hill country of Texas and have many Eagles and Hawks as friends. I am thankful to be a part of this site and hope to be posting frequently. Blessings to all - AHO

Thank you for the warm welcome! If you go to www.unitedsanantoniopowwows.com and then click on bulletin board I believe you can sign on as a guest if you just want to have a look around or better yet join up! I even posted a poem about my father under memorials. Yes I am Huron with some Kiowa (about 1/16th) if that counts. I consider myself mostly just Huron but have many Kiowa friends so I guess 1/16th is good enough for them. The website also lists pow wows in this area which may be helpful for you. how do I send a private message to you? Take good care- I like this site better than Pow Wows.com you have done an excellent job! God bless you

Hi Huronwoman, Welcome to the site! After reading your intro I have to wonder what your disability is, doesn't sound like it slows you down at all. Maybe thats a Native thing, I wear a knee brace and have a couple of crohnic health problems but was always a home room parent, Girl Scout leader, and as active as possible. A the moment I am a volunteer at our local community center where I help with the library and teach ceramics.

That's great you have many Kiowa friends! Thanks for interesting my site. I don't have much money to paying for website to add my Native American Community Website. So, I added this link to MSN, Yahoo and Google to bring more people to signing up. Also, you can PM to your members of www.powwows.com & other Native American message boards and let them know that we have a new site here. Hope we have more members soon. I checked your website link showed: What happen? Maybe ya misspelled letter(s) on that link. OK, look on the top of long photo logo of group Native Americans and see on the right side PM showed: That's where PM at, click on "messages" and you'll get private messages to our members and me too.

A the moment I am a volunteer at our local community center where I help with the library and teach ceramics. Thank you for your concern Actually I had degenerative disk disease, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis (severe) about 7 or 8 vert. that need to be fused in my neck and lower back some have caused extensive nerve damage to the point were I'm partially paralyzed in my left leg (can't wiggle my toes or feel anything in either feet or hands) had 9 knee surgeries on my rt knee including total replacement, surgeries both shoulders, too many closed head injured creating seizures which are now controlled with medication and fibromylagia, I'm sure i've forgotten some things, my Dr. says I have the spirit of a warrior but the body of the Queen of England. Some days I can't move well enough to get out of bed or move my head but the Lord is by my side and has shown me ways to not just cope but overcome. I see the neurosurgeon next week and may be able to get some of the feeling back in my leg or at least stabilize my neck so I don't have to worry about turning my head wrong. God the Father Creator has blessed me with many things and I don't see my disability as a thing to be angry about but something to rejoice about as now I can help others overcome their problems. I stay active too, training horses, walking without a cane or crutches now, and I dance at gatherings and pow wows, Fredricksburg has gourd dancing for a 3hr stint and I intend to hang in for the full 3 hrs plus all inter-tribal dances, so you see I am truly blessed. ;D Blessings to you and your family -AHO

Don't push yourself too hard, too fast. Thats asking for more trouble than you want to have to suffer or deal with.

Just make sure you do listen and listen well. Too many times, I have thought , okay, iI'll stop just as soon as I get this small bit done. I ended up paying for my stubborness and would hate to see you or anyone else make the same mistake.

Yes Toro you are correct, many health problems are related to being Native. I was just talking to my brother "Opsrey" and he is also disabled with many of the same problem I have but some of his came from bullets and going down in a helocopter LOL but some are genetic along with a blood clotting factor that is specifiic to Native Americans, my dad and little sister (anniversary of her making the journey in 1970 is today), made it difficult for them to receive blood transfusions. Had we never been exposed to white man's diseases and foods we would still be living in the old ways and eating porperly. So again there's another one we can blame on the whites. I really blame no one things are the way they are and we must get up every day and say HOKA HEY and battle the day and live it as if it was our last with love and peace in our hearts. I am very sorry about the retinitis pigmentosa as I know as of yet there is no cure but hang on research is coming up with new things every day and even if it takes a trip to Canada someday soon they WILL find a cure. I will post prayers for you on my other bb so brother the Creator will tire from all our prayers and will have no choice but to make you better WADO

My old doctor used to call cataracs, diabeties and glacoma Native diseases. Out of those 3 my Mammaw and dad, only missed diabeties. I'm deaf in my left ear and use a knee brace to walk, but it's no big deal and I've learned to use my handicapps in positive ways. If I'm stuck at a meeting next to a bore or person who insist they are right without looking at the big picture, I turn my left side toward them, and focus on something else. With the bum knee, I've been a postive influnce on the children in the community, because I still do all the thngs their parents do and it teaches them that having a handicapp doen't have to slow you down or stop you from doing things you enjoy.
